Mercer's first visit to the dentist

Today was Mercer's first visit to the dentist. He was actually very excited and Dad had prepped Mercer a few days before by poking and scraping around inside Mercer's mouth. In the end, Mercer's behavior was pretty amazing. The doctors at the office were great, too, which helped a lot. Mercer let everyone do as much poking, counting, and cleaning as they wanted.

First, the hygienist showed Mercer all of the tools and brushes they were going to use. There were mirrors, pokers, fluoride, and brushes.

Nice to meet you, Doctor.

Getting down to business. They even had sunglasses to shield the annoying light. Wish the grown-up dentists had stuff like this.

Counting all of Mercer's teeth. All there.

The staff were very caring and comforting. Pretty impressive.

Time for some cleaning. After the doctor was finished doing her checkup, she asked Mom and Pop, "He's so well-adjusted. Who takes care of him?"

In fact, Mercer was so good that they took four x-rays, which they don't normally do on first visits because it's too overwhelming for the patients. He even had to bite down on those annoying cardboard things. We saw his x-rays and everything looked great. No cavities and we saw his permanent teeth coming in underneath. Amazing.

Time for a fluoride varnish.

Getting in some playtime while Mommy makes the next appointment. What an awesome waiting room. Mercer also got a cool bag of loot.

The dentist is actually right next to Mercer's day care. Even though today is a day off, Mercer couldn't help but show off his new toothbrush and paste to his "girlfriend!" We're very proud of Mercer today.
