Pony ride

During the summer, Mercer went on a pony ride at school. Here he is. Of course he loved it.

This outfit may look a little familiar.

Outtakes from the NYC trip.

Pop has been getting really lackadaisical with the posting as of late. Sorry about that. Time has been at a premium recently. Here are some photo outtakes from our NYC trip a few weekends ago.

Trying to get at those Peanut M/M's.

Pizza.
More pizza.

Cookie in Azure's van.

Cookie in the rear-view of Azure's van.

Checking out city sidewalk bugs.

Clean up cookie, face.

A visit from Katie, Alyssa, and Azure.

Katie, Alyssa, and Azure visited last weekend. We all went into the city on Saturday and enjoyed what was surely the last bit of summer weather.

But first, we had to walk to the store on Friday afternoon to get some snacks.

Then off to Starbucks for a well-deserved treat.

No more treats, Mercer. You can just play with that Peanut M and M's bag. ("OK, Daddy.")

Daddy dropped Mom and the girls off on Canal Street to do some illegal handbag shopping. Pop and Mercer drove up to Chelsea and parked on 17th street, where Mercer became fascinated with a Cesspool truck.

Checking out the sights on 17th street.

We went to the wonderful Books of Wonder, where Mercer discovered the enchanting nature of revolving doors and the tin man from Wizard of Oz. Daddy bought two amazing books that have been in heavy rotation since the weekend: What's Wrong With This Book? by Richard McGuire and The Robot and the Bluebird by David Lucas.

It was time for lunch. Mercer wanted pizza, so we headed to Two Boots on West 11th. Other than spilling a bottle of soda, Mercer did an OK job of eating. He loves pizza crusts.

Dad promised Mercer a cookie if he ate all of his pizza. He didn't.

Ten minutes after we left, Mercer turned around and said "I want a cookie."

The ladies love a man walking down the street with a cute toddler. What they love even more, we found, is a man pushing a cute toddler while he eats a cookie the SIZE OF YOUR HEAD.

We waited for Mommy and the gang on 45th street as they finished up lunch. Pop told Mercer it wasn't wise to hold money out in the open like that.

A quick visit to Stew Leonard's in Yonkers was in order.

Mercer and Alyssa. Aww.

Trying to make a getaway in Katie's car. No luck, though.

Random Blackberry cuteness

Whoops.

Sorry for the long down time in between posts. Pop is intending on putting some photos and video from last week's NYC trip on here soon. We keep leaving the camera in the car, unfortunately. If any burglars are reading this, there's no camera in our car.

Until then, enjoy this new track, "Know Better Learn Faster," by Thao with the Get Down Stay Down.

From the archive: Summer cruising with Hanna

Here is some choppy footage of Hanna taking Mercer for a spin this past summer.

A blast from the past.

Taken during an afternoon trip to Columbia University and the Upper West Side. I really miss these days.

Mercer using his imagination at the toy store.

Mercer has started to play by himself a lot more and create voices and characters for different action figures, stuffed animals, and other toys. Mom captured him doing this at the toy store recently with her Blackberry. Some of the characters are asking for "Mommy," and some are asking for a glass of water (which the character then proceeds to drink), and so on. He does this in the car seat all of the time and it usually ends up with the action figure blasting off into the sky, rocketship-style.

Talking and understanding

Mercer is really beginning to express himself with a much broader vocabulary and range of expressions. It's amazing how fast it's happened. One night, he pulled out a bunch of picture books and started naming everything and asking Mom and Dad about things he couldn't recognize. He's counting like crazy and coming up with some great expressions.

"Don't push, Mommy."
"No 'Shut up,' Mommy. Time out!"

Last night, after dinner, we asked Mercer if he wanted to go for a walk (we usually walk to Starbucks for chocolate milk and cookies), and immediately, Mercer said, "Coffee! Mommy coffee, Daddy coffee, Mercer coffee too!"

His imagination is really blossoming, too. He plays endlessly with his Batman figure, Matchbox Cars, and Superman figure. Sometimes they fight, sometimes they fly together, and sometimes they all just talk:

"Hi, Batman. What are you doing?"
"I'm blue!"

On the Frog Hopper, part 2

We finally got this clip to upload properly. Here's a close-up of Mercer enjoying the Frog Hopper at Knoebel's last weekend.
