Birthday recap, part 4

After cake, there was more silliness, but it was also time to say goodbye. All in all, it was a great weekend and a joyous birthday. Mercer is an amazing 3-year old. We can't wait to see what the coming year has in store.

Birthday recap, part 3

Mercer got a pretty cool bubble gun from Jon and Meredith. He put it to good use by terrorizing Hanna! Mercer also got some other toys along with clothes, books, movies, and a scooter. Then he got a bicycle from Mema and Papa! Hanna and Rayla made sure they were close by for all the unwrapping festivities. Then, it was time for a giant birthday cake.

Birthday recap, part 2

Mercer turned 3 on Saturday. Amazing Mom and Pop have kept him out of trouble for this long. Anyway, the day began when Mercer woke up and snuggled with Grandpa for a little while. Then he brought a helium Transformer balloon down into the basement to wake up Mommy and Daddy. "It's my birthday?" he said.

Donuts for breakfast and a toy water pistol from Grandpa and a mini-skateboard from Mommy to start off the day. Then it was time to get into Transformer mode for the little get-together we had planned.

Birthday recap, part 1

Mercer spent the day before his birthday catching up on GQ magazine, eating cheese crackers, being a monster, and playing with his Playobil. We went to Five Guys for burgers and dogs for dinner. Not a bad day off from school and work.

Happy birthday, Mercer.

Mercer turns 3 today. So far, he's kept himself busy eating donuts for breakfast and playing with his new water pistol and mini-skateboard. A few people are coming over Grandpa's house this afternoon for pizza, snacks, and more presents. It's been overcast all day, but hopefully the skies stay clear for Mercer to play outside with cousin Hanna.

Haircuts

Mercer and Pop got haircuts yesterday. Mercer's was a long time coming. Since it's gotten warmer out, his head just sweats because of his thick mane. As you can see in the picture, Mercer wasn't interested at first, but he behaved really well. He loves his long hair and didn't really want to part with it. We kept it on the long side but just thinned it out a bit. We didn't take an "after" picture, but stay tuned.

Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah

Mercer saw an episode of the Jetsons recently. It just so happened to be the one episode that most of us remember out of all the Jetsons cartoons. Daughter Judy wins a date with teen heartthrob Jet Screamer through a songwriting contest. But it's not that simple. Judy wrote a song to enter into the contest, but her father, George, didn't like this Jet Screamer one bit. He didn't want Judy to have anything to do with him, so in an act of sabotage, George replaces Judy's original song with a secret code that Elroy (Judy's brother) and his friend were using at the sandbox: Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah (means "meet me tonight"). Surely, this couldn't win the contest!

Turns out Jet and his handlers loved the Eep Opp song and Judy wins the contest. It's all OK, though, because Judy actually helped Elroy and his friend write the code in the first place. Anyway, the date goes ahead with George tailing the two the whole time. Eventually, as logic would have it, George plays drums for Jet during the premiere of the new song and becomes enamored with Jet. Amazingly, George never plays drums in any episode again. Even more amazingly, in the future: everyone has stopped using mobile devices, big band music is coming back in a big way, slang from the 1960's seems to be really popular, and...robots.

Anyway, the point of all this is that Mercer is singing "Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah...that means 'I love you'" and "Come fly with me, up high with me..." and it's really cute.
